5 Must-Try Kerrisdale Restaurants

August 8, 2014

It happens to the best of us – sometimes, you just don’t want to cook at home. Whether it’s the end of a long week, the start of a long weekend, or it’s just too hot to turn on the oven, sometimes it’s best to venture out and try a new restaurant in your neighbourhood. For residents of our Oak Townhomes, that will probably mean heading into the close by community of Kerrisdale, home to some truly incredible dining spots along the sweet tree-lined streets of 41st Avenue and West Boulevard.

Although there really are too many great Kerrisdale restaurants to name, here a few of our favourites you won’t want to miss.

BEST BREAKFAST: Avenue Grill

Although Avenue Grill serves great meals throughout the day and night, it’s the brunch & breakfast menu that is especially impressive. A community favourite for decades, the friendly staff and nostalgic atmosphere is an easy choice for a family breakfast, weekend date, or even the classic hangover brunch.

Must try: BC Smoked Salmon Omelette

BEST CASUAL: The Red Onion

A Kerrisdale neighbourhood staple since 1985, The Red Onion never fails to provide quick and tasty eats of many kinds. From flame-grilled burgers to fresh soups and salads to an impressive beer list, this casual joint truly has something for everyone.

Must try: Hatch Burger with hand-cut, double-cooked French fries

BEST PIZZA: Bufala

Having opened its doors just earlier this year, this trendy pizzeria has quickly gained a fanatic following and loyal customer base. Restaurateurs Josh Pape and James Iranzad, who also own Gastown’s Wildebeest, serve up scratch-made Napolitano-style pizza with a unique array of fresh toppings alongside a collection of Italian share-plates and desserts.

Must try:  Pesto & Ricotta Pizza

BEST CHINESE: New Chongqing Restaurant

This was a tough category to decide on a winner as the community has numerous fantastic Chinese restaurants, but New Chongqing, a Szechuan-style Chinese joint, is definitely a favourite among Kerrisdale residents.

Must try: Anything spicy!

BEST FRENCH: 41 West

Hailing from Normandy, France himself, head chef Denis offers a wide-array of classic French dishes complemented by a touch of fresh west coast cuisine. This cozy and surprisingly unpretentious atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for any date night, business lunch, or leisurely weekend breakfast.

Must try: Dungeness Crap and Shrimp Cakes
