As you start looking for a home, you should think about the following:

Size
How many bedrooms do you need now? What about in the next few years? How many bathrooms should the home have? Will you need an office at home?

Location
Where do you want to live? What areas appeal to you? Do you want to be close to work? How close do you want to be to schools, recreational facilities, and your friends and family?

House, Apartment or Townhome
Do you have a preference for a house, an apartment or a townhome? Houses are the largest, but they usually require more maintenance and are often the most expensive. If they are older houses, they may require updates. Apartments are typically stacked homes accessed through a common hallway, and they usually have balconies or patios. Townhomes are ground-oriented with their own front door, and are similar to single-family houses but share a wall with the neighbouring home. Townhomes typically have patios or private outdoor areas.

Price
How much can you afford? How much of a down payment are you able to make? What can you afford to pay monthly? The cost is the single biggest factor in determining the right home.
